Rules

Intro

Being such a long standing league, we’ve all been doing this a while and should know how to play. That being said people should not need multiple warnings regarding what is sim. Suspensions will be handed out immediately for rule violations.

We know that people will have differences, but it is up to you to know where the lines are and not to cross them. Being able to get along well enough to keep the fun atmosphere we have all come to expect while still keeping things mature and respectful is a requirement.

These rules change as necessary and may be altered without warning. Commissioners reserve the right to punish members for any questionable league actions including but not limited to game-play, team management decisions, chat behavior, etc.

REMEMBER RULE #1: Don’t be a cunt.

Advance is every 48 hours.

No offensive custom playbooks. Defensive customs are ok.

Relocation is not approved. You must be a created coach.

Points of Emphasis

The following are not strictly defined, but are banned and will be judged by the CMs on a case-by-case basis:

Suspensions will be levied against the infracting player in most cases unless they are deemed non-impactful, in which case the highest overall player on that side of the ball would be subject to suspension.

There are no rules in the first half regarding running up the score. If you are up by 28+ in the 2nd half you are required to sub in your backups at QB, RB, WR, and TE. At this point you may only pass on second and third downs. You should not score TDs on offense, FIELD GOALS ONLY.

– You are allowed to return INTs/Fumbles/KRs/PRs for TDs.

– Don’t call unnecessary TOs or be a poor sport.

Hike and Haul – BANNED

Formation RS subs (e.g. 46 speed package) – BANNED

We know your X-Factor guy is good, stat limits still apply.

Do NOT change the position of any SS/XF player under any circumstances.

Either you or your opponent must STREAM ALL GAMES. If neither team offers to stream, Home Team is responsible for streaming.

Chat

Discord is required to join the league.

Please have your REGULAR TEAM NAME first in your name for easy tagging since we will have new members.

Chat is lit. Banter is of course encouraged but it is your responsibility to know where the line is. If you are continuously ruining the experience of other users you will be asked to adjust or it may be grounds for removal.

Roster

Must have minimum 50 man roster at game time.

Player numbers must conform to NFL numbering conventions. There is no limit on other equipment.

Banned Position Changes

  • HB to FB*
  • WR to TE / TE to WR*
  • TE to FB*
  • Interior to EDGE*
  • S to SUB LB*
  • CB to Safety
  • Edge to Off ball Linebacker
  • OL to TE
  • K to P / P to K

*Rules exist that allow specific instances of this to occur See “Allowed Formation Subs section below”.

Safety can play in the slot. Don’t sub CB into slot in Big Nickel formation. It’s BIG Nickel for a reason.

Allowed Formation Subs:

HB to FB

HB can play FB in pistol formations exclusively. You may not replace a TE with a HB.

TE to WR

You may play 1 TE at a WR position per play.

Safety to Sub LB

We will be allowing certain safeties to play sub LB if they fit the following parameters:

  1. 213+ lbs
  2. Run Stopper Scheme

**Nickel Normal/2-4-5 is not eligible for this rule**

You cannot dev a safety to run stopper scheme and then use him, there are 18 players who qualify and they will be the only non-drafted players that are allowed to play sub LB. If you draft a player that fits the parameters, they MAY play Sub LB.

Edge to Rush DT

The parameters are:

  • 270+ lbs
  • Cannot play Interior on base formations (3-4 / 4-3 / 46)

Again, this is the RUSH DT depth chart position only. These players cannot play DT or 3-4 DE on base formations.

Interior to Rush DE

If an interior lineman has the edge threat or edge threat elite ability, they may play rush DE in the depth chart. THEY MUST PLAY THEIR NATURAL POSITION IN 4-3 and 3-4 base defenses.

Superstar and Superstar X Factor players should not have their positions edited.

Position changes for Superstar and X-Factor players are not allowed under any circumstance, including changing side from Right to Left or vice versa. This will re-roll their abilities which we are strictly forbidding. The penalty for breaking this rule will be an immediate development trait reduction by one tier.

If a player gains development trait up to the SS/XF level at any point, their position can no longer be changed in the roster.

For drafted 4-3 run-stopper scheme DEs/OLBs, you can choose between 4-3 and 3-4, but that decision is permanent, including if that player is traded or signed elsewhere.

QBs who get the QB Playmaker ability will be permitted to re-roll their ability via a one-time position change. Please note this must be CM-supervised and streamed.

Scheduling

Contact should be made within 24 hours of advance. It is encouraged that you reach out to your opponent prior to the advance. This should all happen on Discord as XBL messaging will not be considered in regards to force wins or losses.

If you cannot make your scheduled time please make sure you let your opponent know, their time is just as valuable as yours.

Force W/L’s will only be given out if someone has been unreachable/unavailable for the MAJORITY of the period. Just because you can play an hour before advance and they can’t does not entitle you to a force W. In the case that you are in position for a FW, you will have the option to have a force win or a straight sim. Do not abuse your depth chart if you are hoping to lose a sim.

If you are not active you will be removed from the league. Activity is the most important characteristic in a good user.

If you need a delay on advance let a commissioner know with a reasonable amount of notice, it can usually be accommodated.

If a game disconnects the game should be replayed if the outcome is still in question. If the game disconnects into the 2nd half and it is clear who the winner was, the said winner will be given a force win. Quitting a game because you are losing is not acceptable and will result in an instant boot.

It is up to home team what jerseys they will wear. The opposing team should wear either white or dark depending on the home team’s choice.

All games must be streamed and the stream must be archived so that we are able to go back and watch it after the fact.

Contact should be made at least within 24 hours of advance. It is encouraged you reach out to your opponent prior to the previous advance. This should happen via Discord direct message. XBL messaging or otherwise will not be considered contact in regards to force wins or losses.

Gameplay

The “playmaker” feature is not allowed; only one warning will be given for this.

Nano Blitzes/Glitch Plays – Absolutely have no place in this league. You will be kicked.

Hike and haul is banned. This includes 1) running out of the pocket immediately at the snap without pass rush and 2) extending the play by rolling out AND attacking the line of scrimmage only to throw. To be clear, rolling out on designed plays or rolling out to avoid pressure is fine. Attacking the line of scrimmage to affect the AI is not.

Do not snap the ball while a WR/TE is in motion and near the tackle box (run plays). The motioning player creates a blocking advantage with the AI and this is considered glitching. If you motion a player manually on a run play, they must get set before you snap the ball. Note: This only applies to manual motioning, does not apply to automatic motioning such as HB Wham or Jet Sweeps.

Mix up your play calling. You should not be running the same play repetitively, what is repetitive will be at the commissioner’s discretion. This applies on defense as well. Do not sit in the same coverage or formation. Remember complaints about this must have twitch evidence.

While there is no strict limit on hot routes, we will be monitoring for abuse (using them every play, consistently using the same hot routes/combinations, etc)

You are only allowed to manually motion one player on any given offensive play.

Run/pass ratio should be realistic. A good rule of thumb to follow is the 65/35 ratio where you either have 65% pass/35% run or vice versa, 35% pass/65% run. This is not a hard ratio.

You are required to rush at least 3 men every play. A spy is not a rusher.

No huddle is only allowed during realistic 2 minute drill situations, such as end of half or end of game when losing.

Chew clock should only be used when one team is up by 28+ or when your opponent asks you to. Manually letting the play clock tick down to one should only be used if you are icing a game’s final drive, or a semi final drive to force the opponent to burn their time outs.  If it happens once in a while because of hot routes or something that’s fine, but don’t make a habit of it.

Goal Line formation should only be used inside the 10 yard line, or anywhere on the field if it is 3rd or 4th down and inches to go. (4th down rules apply)

3-3-5 should be used with 3 down linemen (Edge, DT, Edge) and 3 nickel LBs (3-4 ILB = 4-3 LB).

If a 3-3-5 formation places an offball linebacker on the LOS, you may sub in an edge rusher at that spot, you must place an interior player inside that edge rusher, (should not have two edges next to eachother).

Scoring

There are no rules in the first half regarding running up the score.

If you are up by 28+ in the 2nd half you are required to sub in your backups at QB, RB, WR, and TE.

If you are winning by 28 or more, you may only pass on second and third downs.

If you are up by 28+, you should not score TDs on offense, FIELD GOALS ONLY. You are allowed to return INTs/Fumbles/KRs/PRs for TDs.

If you are up by 28+, you should be chewing clock on offense.

If you are down by 28 and you have asked your opponent to chew the clock you should be chewing as well, if you are attempting to come back you should not be expect your opponent to waste their drives.

4th Down Rules

You may only go for it on 4th down in realistic situations, these include and are limited to:

– Anytime you are 4th and 1 or less at or beyond your 45 yard line.

– You are leading by 3 or less in the 4th quarter, on 4th and 3 or less, past the 50 yard line.

– You are down by at least 21 points in the second half.

– You are trailing by any amount in the 4th quarter.

Kicking and Punting

Fake Punts or Field Goals are only allowed when they are within the 4th down rules.

Onside kicks are only allowed if you are down three possessions in the second half, two possessions in the 4th quarter, or a situation where it is clearly necessary (I.E. down by any amount with no time outs in a situation where the offense could run the clock out)

Abusing squib kicks with intent to recover is not allowed. Squib should only be used to run the clock out, they are not onside kicks.

No Squib punting.

Stat Limits

OFFENSIVE season records should never be obliterated.

Do not break any single game yardage or TD records.

– 1-3 games supension, depending on severity.

For a single game, a WR/TE cannot have greater than 60% of total offense; HB cannot have greater than 70% of total offense. This is calculated by:

Total offense by player / (Passing yards by team + Rushing yards by team)

Season stat caps by position:

QB – 5700 passing yards – 60 Total TDs

RB – 2300 rushing yards – 34 Total TDs

WR/TE – 2150 receiving yards – 27 Total TDs

Season Air Yards per Catch (YPC – RAC avg) at 19.0 or higher is grounds for suspension. This applies to players with 25+ catches for the season as well as 12+ catches after week 8.

Season catches and yards for a #1 receiver should not be double that of the #2 receiver.

Note: an exception may be made for a team that has multiple players just under half of the top receiver.

TDs for one receiver should not be 50+% of your team’s totals.

Trades

All trades must be approved by TC. If a trade is denied you will be given a reason and you are welcome to fix a trade and resubmit unless otherwise stated. Please do not argue with the trade committee they are there for the good of the league.

Trades are final once approved by TC, you cannot back out unless both parties agree. Failure to go through with a trade will result in boot.

CPU trades are not allowed.

Every team has a no trade list that list players that cannot be trades for either 1 or 2 seasons. This NTL can be found here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/2/d/1qZj7HIFWXzmSbeVybu6jEEiRr4h5NY9SiebV_KWG1WU/htmlview

There will be a limit of 4 impact pieces (picks or players) being moved during a year Super Bowl thru Super Bowl. Impact guidelines are as follows:

Anyone 85+

– Anyone over 80 that’s under 29

– Anyone over 75 that’s under 26

– Anyone with dev better than Star

– Any 1st or 2nd round pick (including future)

Note: Pick for pick trades do not count as impact (offseason only)

Any player in the first year of a deal is not allowed to be traded. Rookies drafted in rounds 1-3 cannot be traded for a full season, 4-7 are fair game anytime. Do not sign players with intent to trade. You cannot trade a player who was just acquired via free agency or trade. You must wait one season to trade that player. This does not apply to draft picks or players drafted in rounds 4-7.

Trading of franchise tagged players is allowed. Keep in mind the salary cap implications of trading a player with a fully guaranteed contract. We will not clear your cap penalties.

You cannot have more than two 1st round picks or three 2nd round picks at any time. There is currently no rule for rounds 3-7, but this may change as we get further into the Madden year.

Waiver Trade System

For trades specifically designed for cap relief, please refer to http://www.topmaddenleague.com/2020/07/14/introducing-waiver-cap-trade-system/ for information regarding the waiver trade system and how to do it.

Contracts

You may sign or re-sign a player to a contract of any length.

Do not exceed the highest yearly salary of the largest irl contract for that position (as follows):

-QB: $45m (Patrick Mahomes)

-RB: $16.01m (Christian McCaffrey)

-WR: $27.25m (DeAndre Hopkins)

-TE: $15m (George Kittle)

-OL: $22m (Laremy Tunsil)

-DT: $22.5m (Aaron Donald)

-Edge: $27m (Joey Bosa)

-LB: $18m (Bobby Wagner)

-CB: $20m (Jalen Ramsey)

-S: $14.75m (Budda Baker)

-K/P: $5m (Justin Tucker)

These numbers are PER SEASON, and may be spread by you between salary and bonus however you wish as long as the total does not exceed what is listed above. (https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/rankings/average/)
